Bitumen

Bitumen is the black tar substance and paste the moisture in insulation and construction of asphalt used. Tar varieties, each of which has a specific application. Bitumen from oil derivatives are often produced in oil refineries.
Hydrocarbon is pitch black to dark brown body that carbon, sulfur and carbon tetrachloride completely dissolved. Bitumen is a solid at room temperature. But with increasing temperature, liquid state and then it becomes a paste. The use of bitumen important because of two important properties of this material is impervious to water and being sticky.

Bitumen characterization tests
The following tests to determine the characteristics of bitumen:
1. determination of softening point Softening Point
2. Measurement of Penetration Penetration
3. measure the tension Ductility
4. Measure the point of failure Fraass Breaking Point
5. The effect of air temperature on the pitch Thin Film Over Test
6. Measurement of viscosity Viscosity
7. Weight for Specific Gravity
8. measured solubility or purity of pitch Solubility
9. measure the flash point Flash Point
10. measure the resistance of asphalt mixtures using Marshall Marshall
11. inorganic materials sieve analysis Sieve Analysis
12. extraction and testing of bitumen in asphalt mixtures Extraction
